Mayor Hooks, Coach Linda Williams
and Dr. Steve Wood
|
Mayor Hooks recently recognized Dr. Steve Wood for his contributions to the Weatherford Swim Team by presenting him with the honor of being the 2011 Texas Amateur Athletic Federation Local and Regional Male Athlete of the Year. More important than his talent in the water, Dr. Wood spends a great amount of time mentoring other members of the Weatherford Swim Team and contributes to the team by way of donating items needed for successful training such as kickboards and pull buoys. As a recipient of the regional award, Dr. Wood will automatically compete for State TAAF Male Athlete of the Year. Weatherford Parks and Recreation recently hosted the local NFL Annual Punt, Pass, and Kick Competition. With over 50 participants, the competition was full of children looking to advance to the Sectional contest in Fort Worth in October. Weatherford's top competitors qualifying to move on include: 6-7 year olds, Ryan Whisenhunt and Addy McQuiston. 8-9 year olds, Quinton Pearson and Stephanie Taylor. 10-11 year olds, Cooper McCasland and Caitlin Countryman. 12-13 year olds, Britney Bailey and Anthoni Aragon.

Town Creek Hike & Bike Trail

TOWN CREEK HIKE & BIKE TRAIL
The new 3.2 mile Hike and Bike Trail is quickly becoming a favorite for many residents. The of trail way begins at the Weatherford Chamber of Commerce, runs along Santa Fe Drive and the First Monday Grounds, crosses Black Warrior Creek, ventures under the Jack Borden Way Bridge and into a second trailhead at the Weatherford Police Department (WPD). From the WPD the trail leads in two additional trail heads. One leg heads east, crosses Town Creek, passes by the animal shelter and concludes at Boise Ikard Elementary School near Bankhead Highway and Interstate 20. The other leg makes its way along the east side of Eureka Street and ultimately ties into Holland Lake Park. The trail is almost complete, as some of the final touches include added amenities creating a top-rated hike & bike trail right in the heart of Weatherford. Amenities include: 8 park benches, 9 bike racks, 3 kiosk message centers, a water fountain with pet bowl, a canopy-sheltered park bench, 4 trash receptacles, and 3 pet waste systems.
